Article - Man - The Crown of God's Creation
God is creative. There is no doubt about that. A quick look around at our environment will reveal a brilliant design and glorious discoveries. God is so creative that some of the most exquisite animals are out of our sight at the bottom of the sea. God is artistic. He appreciates the finer things as well as the often over-looked "common" things.
It was good
God in His plan of creation, began with no life on this planet. He spoke light into existence, then the heavenly bodies. When it came time to fill the earth with living things, He was meticulous as He designed prints on the butterfly's wings. He was particular in His formation of cacti and other plants which would need protection from animals. He cared for the practical issues of winged creatures, yet gave enough thought to variety that we are still discovering new species of birds even today. How beautiful is a sunset? How awesome is the power of a whale as it launches itself from the ocean? Is there anything more majestic than a string of peaks along a mountain range? After each stage of creation God stopped and with satisfaction and approval observed that, "It was good". When God determines something is good, it must be good since His standard is so high. This same phrase was quoted after every step of creation... Except the last day.
It was very good
On the last day of creation, God created the land animals. He made everything from the fragile chipmunks to the massive elephants. Again God noted, after inspecting His work, that "It was good". Then He decided to create that which everything else had been created for. God formed man from the dust of the ground, breathed into him the breath of life and man became a living being. At this point God stepped back, looked at His finest creation and saw that, "It was VERY good". Every animal had the fingerprints of God. Every beam of light was spoken forth by God. Every tree was planted by God. But only man was formed in the image of God and sparked to life by the breath of God. This breath is what makes man unique. It is what enables us to communicate in a real and intelligent way with our Creator and each other. It is what makes us "very good" while the other elements of our world are simply "good" in God's eyes. The hand of God brought forth beautiful and mighty things. But the breath of God gives life. Man was given the ability to think, reason, and decide. All of this by the breath of God. All of this so we could relate to God and communicate with Him. Because of this transaction, man has a chance at immortality.
We were created to be very good. Each person is unique. Everyone has special gifts and abilities that separate them not only from the animals, but from other people. God made a good earth, and filled it with good things. But when God created humans he took His very best and gave it to us. So with His image and breath we became very good. Let us seek to live a life that is reflective of Him.
