Article - Learning to Deal With Anger

22 years after being discharged from the military I was diagnosed with Organic Personality disorder, Basically psychical brain damage I received from a beating I got in the military. It had changed my personality. I had sever anger problems, depression, and did not trust anyone. My Condition had been worsened by my service in Viet Nam. It is considered delayed stress, They also have stated in my medical records a mental disability of unknown origin. that's a strange one. I was placed on 100% disability and was started on dilantin, a medicine for controlling seizures, I didn't have psychical seizures. But according to the doctor I had mental ones. It helped my anger a little but not much. I did however help slow down and concentrate more. As I studied my Bible on day, I found a topical Index of scripture in the Back. The first subject was (anger). God had led me to it. I would Like to share it with others now as it has helped me to learn to control my anger much better.

Let us take a look at Proverbs 14:17 A quick-tempered man acts foolishly, And a man of evil devices is hated.

Ouch, that hit my heart like a two edged sword. I was always quick tempered. I made people afraid of me, I didn't want them to get to close. and one simple wrong word and I was ready for war. I knew I needed to change this but how.

The Holy spirit leading I went to the next scripture. Proverbs 14:29 He who is slow to anger has great understanding, But he who is quick-tempered exalts folly.

Be slow to anger, think before you speak or act. I prayed and asked God to help me remember this. I continued being Led by the Holy Spirit to find more scriptures. I will list them here.

Proverbs 15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.

Proverbs 15:18 A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, But the slow to anger calms a dispute.

James 1:19-26 This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger;

20 for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.

21 Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.

22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.

23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;

24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.

25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.

26 If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless.

Proverbs 12:16 A fool's anger is known at once, But a prudent man conceals dishonor.

Pro 19:11 A man's discretion makes him slow to anger, And it is his glory to overlook a transgression.

Pro 22:24-25 Do not associate with a man given to anger; Or go with a hot-tempered man, 25 Or you will learn his ways And find a snare for yourself.

Eph 4:26-27 BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and do not give the devil an opportunity.

Eph 4:31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Col 3:8 But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth.

1Ti 2:8 Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension.

After studying these scriptures I decided I had to work hard on following what the Holy Spirit had taught me. I still struggle with anger some today, but I know it is a sign that I am out of fellowship with God when I start having trouble holding my anger. while writing this the Holy Spirit showed me a new scripture I had missed.

Pro 25:28 Like a city that is broken into and without walls Is a man who has no control over his spirit.

Satan wants us to lose control, Sometimes our daily lives are filled with little things that irritate us and it builds up to a point when we feel like we just want to blow. I have found that studying God word daily, Praying without ceasing 1Th 5:17, Feeds our spirit. When Jesus was in the Wilderness he fasted for 40 days and 40 nights. He then became hungry. read Matthew 4:3-4 And the tempter came and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread." 4 But He answered and said, "It is written, 'MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'"

We must eat Food to Keep our bodies alive, If we don't eat we starve and die.

If we do not feed our spirit the food of Gods word. Our spirit becomes weak and can die. Animals that hunt in the wild will attack and kill the weakest of the herd for food. Satan knows if our spirit is weak and he will use this to his advantage when we are down. In Galatians 5:22-26 we learn about the fruit of the spirit. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.

26 Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another.

If we realize we are not showing these attributes, we know we are out of fellowship with God and our spirit is week. In conclusion I wish to quote, Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

If You or someone you know has a problem with anger may God use this to help you or them. Good Bless http://www.christianavenue.org/forums/member.php?u=44
